State Variation of the Undocumented Youth
The issue of undocumented young people in the United States is quite acute at the present time as there are almost 800 thousand young people under the threat of deportation. The situation with undocumented youth may differ from state to state, especially concerning such fields as education, healthcare, housing, jobs opportunity and other legal rights.
Immigrants in the US labor market are competing primarily with unskilled locals; therefore, the authorities are introducing changes in the education system regarding migrants and the indigenous population of the United States. These changes are different across the country. For instance, undocumented students, who live in Arizona, Georgia, and Indiana, cannot receive in-state tuition at public colleges or universities. Eighteen other states allow in-state tuition for students who meet certain requirements, such as living in that specific state for a certain amount of time, having a high school diploma or GED. However, not all of these states provide a financial aid, namely, undocumented students cannot receive federal financial aid, but they can receive state aid in California, Minnesota, New Mexico,
There is also a bit tricky healthcare situation for undocumented young people across the USA as the high concentration of immigrants in certain states leads to an additional burden on state budgets, which is caused by the need for medical care. Both legal and illegal immigrants are limited in the right to use state medicine. Most people are afraid to seek medical help because of the threat of deportation. Young people are in a slightly better situation than the older ones since healthcare is provided at schools and colleges regardless of nationality. However, after graduation, there is no guarantee of further medical care, although there are private healthcare facilities that in any case need to provide personal information (Zamosky, 2014). This medical system condition can be traced in all states except California,
Speaking about the issue of housing, illegal immigrants also suffer in this area because of the lack of any right to housing. Most immigrants, who are unable to afford their own dwelling, face the problem of becoming homeless. Accordingly, while living on the street, it is extremely easy to catch some kind of illness. Therefore, in New York, for example, a special organization was established to help illegal immigrants with housing (Hilburn, 2016). In other states, less is worried about this issue. Students are easier to find housing because they have the right to go to college, where there is a possibility of staying in a student dormitory. Yet, the state does not try to improve the process of obtaining housing and even subsidies for immigrants. Concerning job opportunities, according to recent data, illegal immigrants make up most of the workforce in the United States. But despite being of the same age and having the same education as the US citizens, undocumented young people are limited in their rights in this area as well; in particular, they are offered worse jobs and lower wages (Fottrell, 2017). This state of problem is nearly the same across the USA
To sum up everything said in thisfive paragraph narrative essay , the USA continues to be one of the few countries in the world, which still employs a large number of immigrants. The most important goal of the immigration policy is to protect the national labor market from an uncontrolled influx of foreign labor force, the state of the imported labor force, and therefore widely apply measures aimed at preventing immigration and reducing the number of foreign labor in the host country. To combat illegal immigration, the method of deportation and internment of foreigners, who have illegally entered the country, is widely used.
